Using light-based puppetry techniques, including shadow puppetry and 3D puppets with LEDs, ArtWorks Apprentices (Rose Joffe, Samara Bill, Gray Draper, & Leo Hernandez) and Teaching Artists (Lizzy DuQuette & Jesse Mooney-Bullock) built and will perform a giant shadow-screen crankie, a two-dimensional scrolling puppet show installation within (and in front) a storefront window. Crankies, also called moving panoramas, have long been used as a visual storytelling tool in many cultures. The crankie will be lit from behind, illuminating the scroll and creating silhouettes. During the performances, Apprentices will activate the story on the scroll by using shadow puppets behind the screen and LED light puppets in front of the screen.
